Creating a Junk Mail (Spam) Filter Email Rule in Microsoft Outlook Express
Step 1

From Microsoft Outlook Express,
select the Tools | Message Rules | Mail... menu.
Step 2

Check the Where the message body contains specific words
check box, and then click the highlighted contains specific words text
in the Rule Description.
Step 3

Add all the words and phrases that commonly occur in a junk
mail message by typing them in the edit box and clicking the Add button.
When you're finished, click OK.
Step 4

Check the Move it to the specified folder check box
and then click the highlighted specified text in the Rule Description.
Step 5

Either select an existing folder from the list, or create a new one by clicking
the New Folder button.
Step 6

Click OK when you've selected the folder that the
junk mail will be moved to.
Step 7

Optionally, give the new mail rule a nice name.
Then click OK.
Step 8

Lastly, click OK again to save the rule.
Remember to check the folder where junk mail is moved from time to time to make
sure the rule is not filtering mail that should be getting through, and to
empty the folder occasionally.
When a junk mail message gets through the filter, identify a phrase or two in
the message that would have identified it, and add it to the list of words the
rule looks for.
