Enter Caption Window

When any of the screen-capture keys is pressed, the Enter Caption window is displayed. In this window, you can crop and resize the screen capture, and enter a title and caption for it.

The toolbar

The toolbar of the Enter Caption window has functions for editing the captured image as explained below.
Image Type
You can specify that an image be saved either as a Jpeg, or Bitmap. If you specify Bitmap, you can also specify the colour depth of the image, from 16 colours, to full 32-bit colour. If you specify Jpeg, you can set the image quality from 100 (maximum) down to 10 (minimum). Reducing the color depth or image quality will reduce the size of the resulting image. The size of the resulting image is displayed next to the image. For Jpeg images, you can also specify that they be saved in greyscale, which will further reduce the size of the image.

Crop button

When this button is clicked, the image is cropped to the selected area. Read more about cropping an image below...

Reset button

When this button is clicked, any changes to the images are discarded, and the image that was originally captured is displayed.

Set Image Size Button

Clicking this button opens the Set Image Size dialog. The Set Image Size button also displays the current image size in pixels.
See more about the specify image size dialog...

Cropping an image

To crop an image, select the area of the image you would like to keep by clicking and dragging a selection square on it.
Then click the crop button:

The image is reduced to the area inside the selection rectangle.

Resizing the image

To resize the image, you can use either of the slider controls at the top and left side of the image. By sliding these with your mouse, the image is scaled up or down, and the aspect ratio, or proportions of the image are preserved. To stretch or shrink an image in only one direction, hold down the control key as you move the slider control.

You can also set the image to a specific size by using the Set Image Size dialog.
To access this, click the Image Size button:

Specifying a title and caption

You can enter a title for the screen capture in the Title: box.
Below this, enter instructions for this step of the manual.
When you are finished, click OK or press Ctrl + Enter to save the new image and text to the manual.
Clicking Cancel will discard any changes and return you to recording mode.
